#1) JOB TITLE: Family and Child Program Coordinator

Job Summary: 

NEW ROSS FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE   

4691 Highway 12, New Ross, NS

 

The Family and Child Program Coordinator should be able to:

  • Coordinate and facilitate groups, with the ability to plan, develop, implement, monitor, promote and evaluate centre-based programs
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, families, community and partners
  • Work well both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively
  • Provide mandatory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Checks
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Apply strong organization and administrative skills. Manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Use computer skills. A willingness to learn how to update websites and social media, an asset.
  • Demonstrate an interest and willingness in pursuing professional development opportunities
  • Enjoy and work well with children

Responsibilities and Duties

Core Program Areas:

Children’s Programs: Facilitate/Lead Playgroup (Monday and Thursday), Baby Group, Tumblebugs Program Once per year, After School Program (2 days/week) throughout the school year

Parent and Family Programs: Facilitate Family and Parenting Programs for small or large groups, or one-on-one. Support and referrals for families as time permits.

Administrative and Other Program Coordination:

Provide program information, complete registration, answer client questions, and answer phones. Develop, plan, implement, monitor, promote, and evaluate programs. Assists NRFRC Coordinator. Fill in other duties for staff, as requested. Other duties as required.

Website & Communications:

Work with staff to provide communications on social media and update NRFRC and community website. Other duties as required. No website experience needed; training provided

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in the child/youth field, Early Childhood Educator, social services, human services, community development, education or related field.
  • OR: Grade 12 with two years’ experience working with children &/or families, or a combination of experience and training.
  • First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain

NEW ROSS Community Day Care – Employment Opportunity

REPORTS TO:  Board of Directors

 POSITION SUMMARY:  

Our Early Childhood Educator is responsible for organizing and operating a day care program in the community of New Ross for children aged 18 months to 5 years.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for: Creating a warm, family friendly environment that supports the families of New Ross and surrounding area with their child care needs.

Client Services

  • Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
  • Plan and lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children.
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits.
  • Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members.
  • May supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants

Administrative Functions

  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisors.
  • Complete paperwork, reports and documentation pertaining to operational standards.

Other duties as required

  • Assist with special events of the program.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts for the program.
  • Ensures centre meets all Day Care licensing requirements and in accordance with the Day Care Act and Regulations

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

The Early Childhood Educator should be able to:

  • Demonstrate attention to detail to ensure accuracy of written information.
  • Manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Work closely with other staff and interact in a professional manner.
  • Provide mandatory Child Abuse Registry and Vulnerable Sector checks.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with community based programs, organizations and families.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and understand the collaborative approach with co-workers, families and other participating members and partners.
  • Use excellent communication skills (written and oral), organization and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to pursue professional development.
  • Enjoy and work well with children.
  • Work 40 hours + per week on a permanent full time basis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The Early Childhood Educator must possess:

 Level 2 Classification under the Day Care Act and Regulations 40(1) of Day Care regulations.

  • Experience in day care or a related field.
  • Current First Aid Certification.

 

Salary: To be negotiated, qualifications dependent. Hourly wage $17.00 per hour if level 2

Assist Early Childhood Educators in the delivery, organizing and delivery of a day care program in the community of New Ross for children aged 18 months to 5 years.

  • This position may include planning and preparing homemade nutritious meals and snacks, clean-up, and guiding and assisting children at meal time, served family style.

  • Follow Centre Policies and Procedures and other Day Care requirements.
  • Assists in completing paperwork and documentation.
  • Assist with special events of the program and fundraising as requested.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

 

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant should be able to:

  • Provide mandatory Child Abuse Registry and Vulnerable Sector checks.
  • Work collaboratively and positively with staff and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Use excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an eagerness to pursue professional development.
  • Enjoy and work well with children.
  • Cooking Skills:  Plan and prepare nutritious, homemade meals.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant must possess:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Food Safety Level 1, or willingness to complete ASAP.
  • Current First Aid Certification or willingness to complete ASAP.
  • Experience in a day care or working with children

 

Hours: Flexible Hours, Approximately 25 hours/week. Additional hours may be acquired through a split shift providing 32.5 hour total. 

Salary: $12.00/hr.  Permanent position.

#4) PART-TIME AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM LEADER

Work 2 afternoons/week, potential for more. Applicant must be enthusiastic, friendly, and a good role model.

Must also have current 1st Aid Training, completed Vulnerable Sector (from local RCMP), and Child Abuse Check.

Leader will be responsible to plan activities, and supervise a small group of children, age 5-12 years old.
