Baby, Child & Youth Programming

 

Programs for Children:

  • Pre & Post Natal: Karen is now able to offer one-on-one or group setting pre/post natal information sessions. Contact her at nrfrckaren@gmail.com or 902-689-2414 for more information or to set up a meeting.
  • Baby & Play Group: This program runs every Monday from 10 – 11:30 AM (whenever school is happening). Registration is required at this time to help us prepare weekly activities. This is a free program that is intended for families with children, birth to 5 years old. This program provides the opportunity for conversation and socialization for parents and children, as well art activities, reading, music, and a healthy snack.   • After School Program: Join us Monday to Friday afternoons throughout the school year for fun, games, crafts, and activities. Children may attend on a full-time or part-time basis. To register or to be added to our waiting list contact Janice at nrfrcjanice@gmail.com or 902-277-1823.
  • Dance Classes –  Kailee Sawler will be offering dance classes in our Multi Purpose Room, including the basics of hip hop, jazz, street, and ballet  classes. Spring 2022, 10 week Session begins April 7 – ages range from 3 – teen. Call 902-670-1197 or email kailee.sawler@gmail.com for more information or to register.
  • Girl Talk – This program provides a safe group setting for girls aged 10 – 12 to talk about things that are important to them. This program will include discussions relevant to issues of girls this age, forming friendships, activities, weekly craft and having fun! Typically runs for 4 weeks every April.   • At Home Learning Kits: For children in the community of NEW ROSS only, a learning/play kit which may include activities for your child (age range 1-5 years old), family activities (such as cooking), or an online component (such as a read-a-loud book). These will be prepared by Ms. Janice and Ms. Karen. Monthly registration is required. Call 902-689-2414 or email nrfrckaren@gmail.com or nrfrcjanice@gmail.com
  • Rainbows: This program is for emotional healing among children who may be grieving from a loss or other life-altering crisis. It is available in a small group, or one-on-one whenever needed. Contact Janice at nrfrcjanice@gmail.com or call NRFRC at 902-689-2414.

  • Learning About Nova Scotian Animals with Nicole Wallis from Natural Resources & Renewables. FREE Wednesday June 8th, 2:30pm – 3:30pm. This is open to students in Grades Pre-Primary to Grade 4. Learn how to identify tracks, see real skulls, and even learn about animal poop! You will get to create your own animal track from clay to take home with you. You must call or email to register for this program. 
  • Home Alone Course (from In A Heartbeat Emergency Training Services). Monday, June 13, 2:30pm – 5:30pm. This course prepares children to stay home by themselves for short periods of time, when they and their parents feel they are ready to do so. Topics include the importance of establishing routines, strangers, feeling scared, preventing and dealing with emergency situations, calling 911 and basic first aid. Cost is $45, payable to In A Heartbeat Emergency Training Services. For children in Grades 4-6. You must call or email NRFRC to pre-register for this program.
  • JULY
  • Storytime on the Trail with Ms. Karen FREE Monday, July 4/11/25 at 10:00am. Meet at the Lion’s Gate Park, walk along the trail, stopping for a story or two and have a healthy snack for children. For all ages, under 10 must be accompanied by an adult). You must email or call NRFRC to pre-register for this program.
  • Babysitter Certification (from In a Heartbeat Emergency Training Services). Monday, July 11 9:00am – 3:00pm. This course is designed to teach youth the skills required to care for children. Topics include attributes of a good babysitter and employer, ages and stages of development of children 3 months to school aged, behaviour and misbehaviour and how it relates to communication, feeding and changing babies and toddlers, activities and nutrition for all ages, preventing injury, dealing with emergencies, and basic first aid. Cost is $55, payable to In a Heartbeat Emergency Training Services. You must call or email NRFRC to register for this program.
  • Rock Painting & A Hike (Ruby’s Trail Paint Day), FREE, all ages (under 10 must be accompanied by an adult), Thursday, July 14, 9:00am – 12:00pm. Meet at the Resource Centre, hike to a spot to paint 2 rocks (one to keep, one to leave on the trail). All supplies provided.
  • Family Hike to Lake Lawson with Nicole Wallis from Natural Resources & Renewables. FREE Friday, July 22, 5:30pm – 6:30pm. Bring your family and discover how to identify plants and trees and learn about the ecosystem of a lake. You must call or email to register for this program.
  • Rock Painting & A Hike (Lion’s Gate Park Paint Day), FREE, all ages (under 10 must be accompanied by an adult), Thursday, July 28, 10:00am – 12:00pm. Meet at the Resource Centre, hike to a spot to paint 2 rocks (one to keep, one to leave on the trail). All supplies provided.

  • Youth Hike to Lake Lawson with Nicole Wallis from Natural Resources & Renewables. FREE Thursday, August 4, 10:00am – 11:00am. For youth in Grades 5-12, come hike the trail to Lake Lawson and discover how to identify plants and trees and learn about the ecosystem of a lake.   • Daycare: The New Ross Community Day Care is a licensed 12 space center serving children aged 18 months – 5 years, open 5 days/week 7:30 am – 5:30 pm, located upstairs at the New Ross Family Resource Centre.
